Refreshed Exterior and Interior
Both the exterior and the interior of the GMC Sierra 1500 will be thoroughly refreshed for the 2022 model year. Style changes to the exterior of the 2022 Sierra 1500 include new front and rear fascia designs, new wheel options, and multiple new exterior color options that allow you to better personalize your pickup.
Inside its cabin, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will feature a completely overhauled dash that includes a new gauge cluster with a fully digital display, a new center console, and a larger central display screen. The cabin of the refreshed 2022 Sierra 1500 will also be more convenient and feature more options for amenities. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 will be available with convenient new interior storage spaces and an available large sunroof.
Super Cruise Driver Assistance
Super Cruise is one of the most notable additions to the refreshed 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. This semi-autonomous driving system from GMC is renowned as one of the safest, most effective and convenient semi-autonomous driving systems available on the mainstream auto market.
Considered a Level 2 autonomous driving system, Super Cruise does not allow for fully autonomous driving. Instead, it is a semi-autonomous driver assistance system that allows for hands-free driving on the road. It works on 200,000 miles of roads that it has mapped throughout North America.
This complex system utilizes GPS information, radar sensors, LiDar mapping, and cameras to steer and brake a vehicle on its own without any driver intervention. It also includes adaptive cruise control and a lane-centering feature to minimize the number of effort drivers have to put into navigating their vehicles while on the road.
Although Super Cruise helps relieve drivers of some of the more taxing and tedious aspects of operating their vehicle, it does not allow for fully autonomous driving. It is important that drivers continue to pay attention to the road; the Super Cruise system even maps your gaze while driving to ensure that you are continuously paying attention and keeping your eye on the road ahead.
For many GMC Sierra 1500 drivers, the towing capacity of their vehicles is very important. In fact, many drivers choose the Sierra 1500 specifically for its excellent towing capacity.
The 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 has a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 lbs., which is very impressive for a light-duty full-size pickup truck. It also has an impressive maximum payload capacity of up to 2,280 lbs.
The 2022 Sierra 1500 is expected to be available with an increased payload capacity and either the same or increased towing capacity as its counterpart model for the 2021 model year.
GMC’s Sierra 1500 will also be available with a hands-free towing option. This towing option will work in tandem with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system to allow drivers to tow while taking advantage of the hands-free driving feature that Super Cruise offers.
